How to Take Care of Eczema
Eczema: Researchers believe that it is most likely genetic, although here are triggers that cause its flare-ups. Eczema is fairly common – approximately 1 in 10 people in the world will be affected by it at some point in their lives.
What is eczema?
Eczema is a skin condition that causes the skin to become red, irritated and itchy. Sometimes small, fluid-filled bumps appear on the skin as well. Eczema is most common in infants. Many people outgrow it by early adulthood.
Eczema Triggers
The following can trigger or worsen eczema symptoms:
- Allergy to pollen in the air, mold, dust mites, or animals
- Colds or flu
- Dry skin
- Exposure to environmental irritants
- Fragrances or dyes added to skin lotions or soaps
- Stress
- Food allergies
Symptoms of Eczema
- Usually, the first symptom of eczema is intense itching
- Rash appears later; is red and bumpy
- The rash itches or burns
- If it is scratched, it may ooze and become crusty
- Chronic rubbing produces thickened plaques of skin
- Painful cracks can develop over time. In children younger than age 2, skin lesions begin on the face, scalp, hands, and feet. It is often a crusting or oozing rash. In older children and adults, the rash is more commonly seen on the inside of the knees and elbows.
Recommended Self Care of Eczema (External)
- Remove whatever is causing the allergic reaction (e.g. change laundry detergent to Forever MPD).
- Prevent dry skin by taking warm (but not too hot) showers or baths.
- Use Bath Gelee in shower, then spray Aloe First and pat dry, and lastly apply Aloe Vera Gelly, followed by Aloe Propolis Crème.
- Avoid wearing tight-fitting, rough clothing.
- Avoid scratching the rash. If can’t stop yourself from scratching, cover the area with a dressing.
- Eat right, do light exercise, and rest well.
