A Look at Kim Kardashian's Diet
After struggling with getting the baby weight off, it looks like Kim Kardashian has found her stride. In the May issue of Harper's Bazar, we get an almost hour-by-hour rundown of the reality star's life. Between the selfies, meetings, video chats with her sisters, and playtime with North, a picture of health emerges.
6 a.m. . . . The first person I talk to is Kanye because he's right there next to me in bed. I'll say, "Do you want to go for a run?" And he usually does. Or he won't because he has a workout, so we'll just talk about that, then kisses.
On Kim's running playlist? It's not Kanye. Instead Kim opts for classical and R&B because anything else just slows her down, she says. Workouts last about 90 minutes or so with time spent running and then strength training. While Kim used to a big fan of the gym, she now skips it for home workouts, which allows her more time to spend with North. So far, so good.
And while Kanye isn't always up for a run, he's definitely making sure the Kardashian-West household is eating healthy. It's probably of no surprise that they aren't cooking for themselves; but who in Hollywood doesn't have a personal chef or meal-delivery service these days? Welcome to the good life.
8 a.m. . . . Kanye loves to eat really healthy and is always on different diets. He has a chef who comes in the morning and cooks breakfast for both of us and gets our meal plans together for the day. We just started seeing a nutritionist who changes our diet every 10 days.
On the menu is a lot of protein and vegetables and not a ton of carbs. Breakfast for Kim is usually oatmeal, scrambled eggs, or a protein shake with fruit. Lunch (1 p.m.) and dinner (7 p.m.) are some version of fish or chicken with vegetables. Low-carb and protein-heavy — you won't see many health nuts taking issue here. We are going to raise an eyebrow over with her version of dessert though.
3 p.m. If I need a sweet-tooth fix, I'll have those Justin's peanut butter packs; the almond butter is also really good. I'll just eat it plain. I used to drink a ton of iced tea, but I've cut back. I had the craziest addiction to Equal — I'd put 10 Equals in every iced tea. My sister Kourtney would always say, "You can't have that much sweetener!" I've trained myself to have just one iced tea a week, and I'm down to three Equals.
Three Equals aside, Kim does say she occasionally splurges on ice cream — Haagen-Dazs Dulce de Leche to be exact.

4 Easy Tricks to Send the "I'm Full" Signal
Portion control is a key player when it comes to a balanced diet, but it can be hard to stop when your cravings are telling you to reach for seconds — or thirds. When you first begin to realize that you're full, use these tricks to tell your mind that the meal is over.
- Pick peppermint: A piece of hard candy, a mint, a mug of tea, or even mouthwash — after eating, go for anything peppermint-flavored to flood your senses and keep your instincts in check. As a natural appetite suppressant, peppermint will help you control your cravings and avoid postmeal munchies.Find out more: Meal Snack to Help Control Appetite and Cravings
- Get up and move: The best way to let your body know that it's time to stop eating? Switch locations. It's hard to keep eating if you're no longer near the food! Move from the kitchen to the living room, and busy yourself with other tasks. Even better, consider going on a walk once mealtime is over.
- Have a small taste of something sweet: Sometimes, just a spoonful of something sweet can curb the urge to keep eating while also signifying the end of a meal. Instead of reaching for a giant slice of cake, choose a healthy, water-based food that will help you feel full. Try a handful of berries, a serving of watermelon, or a spoonful of pomegranate seeds — the tart seeds pack a major antioxidant punch, plus they're high in vitamin A, vitamin C, and fiber.
- Make postmeal plans: If you have something to do after a meal, you'll find it easy to steer clear of unnecessary seconds and quit eating once you're satisfied. It doesn't need to be a major to-do, either — simply planning to call a friend or pack tomorrow's gym bag will help you stay focused and stop snacking.
5 Tips for Skin Care
Good skin care — including sun protection and gentle cleansing — can keep your skin healthy and glowing for years to come.
Don't have time for intensive skin care? You can still pamper yourself by acing the basics. Good skin care and healthy lifestyle choices can help delay the natural aging process and prevent various skin problems. Get started with these five no-nonsense tips.
1. Protect yourself from the sun
One of the most important ways to take care of your skin is to protect it from the sun. A lifetime of sun exposure can cause wrinkles, age spots and other skin problems — as well as increase the risk of skin cancer.
For the most complete sun protection:
- Use sunscreen. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15. Apply sunscreen generously, and reapply every two hours — or more often if you're swimming or perspiring.
- Seek shade. Avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., when the sun's rays are strongest.
- Wear protective clothing. Cover your skin with tightly woven long-sleeved shirts, long pants and wide-brimmed hats. Also consider laundry additives, which give clothing an additional layer of ultraviolet protection for a certain number of washings, or special sun-protective clothing — which is specifically designed to block ultraviolet rays.
2. Don't smoke
Smoking makes your skin look older and contributes to wrinkles. Smoking narrows the tiny blood vessels in the outermost layers of skin, which decreases blood flow. This depletes the skin of oxygen and nutrients that are important to skin health.
Smoking also damages collagen and elastin — the fibers that give your skin strength and elasticity. In addition, the repetitive facial expressions you make when smoking — such as pursing your lips when inhaling and squinting your eyes to keep out smoke — can contribute to wrinkles.
If you smoke, the best way to protect your skin is to quit. Ask your doctor for tips or treatments to help you stop smoking.
3. Treat your skin gently
Daily cleansing and shaving can take a toll on your skin. To keep it gentle:
- Limit bath time. Hot water and long showers or baths remove oils from your skin. Limit your bath or shower time, and use warm — rather than hot — water.
- Avoid strong soaps. Strong soaps and detergents can strip oil from your skin. Instead, choose mild cleansers.
- Shave carefully. To protect and lubricate your skin, apply shaving cream, lotion or gel before shaving. For the closest shave, use a clean, sharp razor. Shave in the direction the hair grows, not against it.
- Pat dry. After washing or bathing, gently pat or blot your skin dry with a towel so that some moisture remains on your skin.
- Moisturize dry skin. If your skin is dry, use a moisturizer that fits your skin type. For daily use, consider a moisturizer that contains SPF.

4. Eat a healthy diet
A healthy diet can help you look and feel your best. Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. The association between diet and acne isn't clear — but some research suggests that a diet rich in vitamin C and low in unhealthy fats and processed or refined carbohydrates might promote younger looking skin.

5. Manage stress
Uncontrolled stress can make your skin more sensitive and trigger acne breakouts and other skin problems. To encourage healthy skin — and a healthy state of mind — take steps to manage your stress. Set reasonable limits, scale back your to-do list and make time to do the things you enjoy. The results might be more dramatic than you expect.
How to Breathe When Running
Ever wonder why some days you feel like you can keep running and running, while on others you have zero stamina? Certainly the amount of sleep you got the night before, stress levels, and diet play a role in how you perform during your runs, but how you regulate your breath during your jogging session also effects your energy levels. Here's how to power your muscles with fresh oxygen on each stride.
Learn to breathe deeply: Your lungs are just a bit smaller than your ribcage, but most people tend to use just the top third of this powerful organ.
When you take a deep breath, you are expanding the lungs, pressing down the diaphragm, and causing your abdomen to expand as your lungs fill with air. Learning to breathe this way while running helps you take in lots of oxygen, preventing dizziness and nausea. With a little training and some stretching you can breathe to your full potential and increase your endurance. Cross-training with yoga and Pilates can also help you learn to breathe from your diaphragm.

With a little training and some stretching you can breathe to your full potential and increase your endurance. Cross-training with yoga and Pilates can also help you learn to breathe from your diaphragm.
Match your breathing to your steps: For an easy-paced run, inhale for three or four steps, then exhale for the same amount. Count the steps in your head while you adjust to breathing on tempo. If you are running more intensely, your breathing tempo will increase to support your increased energy output and become faster — a breath in for one to two steps and out for one to two steps. If you can't match your steps to your breathing tempo, then you are trying to run too fast; slow down, and get back into your rhythm.
Breathe differently in cooler temps: It's important to breathe through your nose while running in chillier weather because cold air is dry and breathing through your mouth increases the dryness while decreasing the temperature of the air. Since your lungs do not like dry air, you can experience asthma-like symptoms, like wheezing and coughing, when breathing cold air in through your mouth. Breathing through your nose not only filters out air impurities, but also warms cool air to body temperature, creating less shock for the lungs to decrease those asthma-like symptoms.
Learn to breathe through your nose: If nose breathing is difficult for you, start experimenting with the technique now before the temperature drops drastically. Breathing through the nose helps you breathe more deeply and efficiently, which will ultimately help your running no matter what the temperature is. If you plan to run in cold temps and have yet to master nose breathing, you can try wearing a bandanna (or a shirt that can be pulled up far) over your nose and mouth to help trap the moisture of your breath and humidify in the air before it reaches your lungs.

Probably You're Doing Your Detox All Wrong
What is a Detox?
"Detoxing" may be a vague term, but one thing is clear: the end goal is to look and feel your best. But the right way to detox isn't by restricting your diet to an unhealthy juice cleanse.
Instead, detoxing means both helping your body rid itself of toxins as well as living in a way that minimizes the amount you hold onto. "The first part of a detox is cleaning out the old stuff that's in there, and the second part is eating and living in such a way that we don't amass as many toxins in the first place," she explains. How to do that? For one, make fiber your friend. "Detox means having a lot of fiber so that your digestion is functioning optimally and wastes aren't stagnating and there isn't excess putrification or fermentation going on in your system. I recommends our fiber-filled Forever F.I.T C9 (a celebrity favorite) as a smart way to start your natural and healthy Detox program.
When it comes to living a toxin-free lifestyle, i notes that it doesn't just end with what's on your plate. Everything from relationships to stress at work can all play a part in how successful your detox will be. Our digestion is affected very much by our thoughts in the way that stress starts in the mind but also affects our heart; our thoughts can also influence digestion and weight gain. I suggests looking at all your habits, not just your eating ones, to identify where unhealthy, toxic elements lie. If you really want to be the healthiest, the cleanest, the most useful, the most beautiful, and the best you can be, you really have to look at different parts of your lifestyle!

Save your eyesight with natural nutrients
If you have diabetes you know that you need to be vigilant about your vision, because your risk of developing diabetic retinopathy (damage to the blood vessels in the retina), cataracts (clouding of the eye’s lens) and glaucoma (increase in fluid pressure inside the eye that leads to optic nerve damage and loss of vision) is higher than in the general population.
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the leading cause of blindness in Americans over 55 years of age in another concern. In addition to keeping your blood sugar under control and getting an annual eye exam, keep your peepers in tip-top shape by incorporating these nutrients into your diet.

Lutein and Zeaxanthin
The carotenoids filter harmful high-energy blue wavelengths of light and help protect and maintain healthy cells in the retina, lowering the risk of cataracts. Rich sources of these two critical compounds include kale, spinach, romaine lettuce, Brussels sprouts, corn, broccoli and eggs.
Zinc
This essential trace mineral is required to help transport vitamin A from the liver to the eye to make the protective pigment melanin. Zinc is highly concentrated in the eye, mostly is the retina and choroid (the vascular tissue layer under the retina). A deficiency of zinc can result in cataracts and poor night vision. Food sources include red meat, poultry, liver, shellfish, milk, tofu and whole grains. Recommended nutrition: Forever Bee Pollen & Vitolize
Vitamin C and E
Found in citrus fruits, berries, melons, white potatoes and leafy green vegetables, vitamin C lowers the risk of developing cataracts and when consumed along with other essential nutrients like vitamin E can slow the progression of AMD. Good sources of vitamin E include vegetable oils, wheat germ and nuts.Recommended nutrition: Forever Absorbent C
Essential Fatty Acids
The omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA are required for healthy nerve cells and immune system function. Researchers at John Hopkins University found that people who regularly consumed fish high in omega-3 fatty acids significantly less likely to have AMD, other studies indicated that they also protect against cataracts and damage to the cells of the retina as a result of high blood glucose levels.
The best sourse of fatty acids include Salmon, Mackerel, Anchovy and Calamari. Recommended nutrition: Forever Artic Sea

Forever Fiber Support a Healthy Diet
New Fiber Supplement Support a Healthy Diet
Forever Fiber provides 5 grams of quick-dissolving fiber in a convenient stick pack to support a healthy diet. Experts recommend that we consume up to 30 grams of fiber daily for optimal health and digestive function, yet sadly, most people only consume approximately half that amount. Our search for convenience in the foods we eat means that we aren’t obtaining the adequate amounts of fiber that we need to support our health. Forever Fiber is a proprietary blend of four types of fiber, and offers a convenient way to add some extra fiber to your diet – by sprinkling on the foods you eat, mixing with Forever Aloe Vera Gel or other beverage, or adding to your water bottle when you are on the go!
Healthy Digestion with Forever Fiber
While we often associate fiber with supporting digestive function – and this is certainly very true – fiber provides significant benefits to the body overall. Forever Fiber, taken between meals, can help to support feelings of fullness, thereby controlling appetite and cravings, and caloric intake. This is especially important for those on a weight management program, when used with a healthy diet and regular exercise. By also helping to support normal blood sugar levels already in the normal range, and slow the absorption of macronutrients from our foods, fiber can also help limit feelings of sluggishness or low energy after we eat.
Support Cardiovascular Health with Forever Fiber
Fiber has been shown to support cardiovascular function and, of course, because scientists now recognize that up to 70% or 80% of immune function in the body is associated with the gastrointestinal tract, fiber may help to support the immune system via its benefits for digestive function. Adequate soluble fiber intake can facilitate removal of waste products from the body and may help to relieve occasional constipation.
Forever Fiber makes it easy to add more fiber to your diet by providing 5 grams of soluble fiber in each stick pack. That is the equivalent of almost 1 ½ cups brown rice or 2 slices of whole wheat toast – without the carbohydrates and calories! Forever Fiber is a convenient way to increase your overall daily fiber intake and optimize your health.
